GENERAL SUMMARY
The Underwriting Manager will be based at our newly set up office in GIFT City. To provide customized coverages characterized by high quality technical evaluation and flexible underwriting responses to preserve clients’ assets by offering superior service and innovative approaches from high quality staff with technical expertise in various industries such as energy, power, and manufacturing.
Our purpose is to develop and maintain our competitive advantage within a corporate environment that responds to the needs of our clients and the people of Starr Tech Asia Pacific. These efforts will result in Starr Tech being recognized as the best insurance facility while achieving a consistent ability to provide a stable Asian market, today and tomorrow, to our clients.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Underwrite risks in adherence to the underwriting guidelines and authority of the company.
- Aim to achieve an underwriting profit by analyzing and assessing technical insurability of the risk, including the adequacy of the terms and conditions of the proposals received.
- Pro-active and consistent approach in the preparation and submission of quotations and proposals on new offerings and on renewal submissions.
- Proper use of the various tools and systems of Starr in evaluating risk and submissions as well as information collection, warehousing, and analysis.
- It will also involve administrating and monitoring underwriting rules and guidelines, as well as complying with insurance laws and regulations, rating tools and models.
- Ensure compliance with regulatory responsibilities as well as to internal risk management duties.
- Represent Starr and build relationships by regular contacts or meetings with clients, brokers and other industry partners which require competent technical know-how, negotiations, product orientations and service initiatives.
- Gain, establish and maintain relevant industry knowledge including complex program structures, policy coverage, risk management etc.
QUALIFICATIONS
Job Specifications:
- High level of technical knowledge in insurance underwriting.
- Good knowledge and proficiency in the use of underwriting guidelines, tools and systems.
- Strong analytical and technical skills.
- Excellent communication skills including negotiating ability.
- Ability and proven track record in managing complex accounts and situations.
- Ability to network, build relationships and work in a team environment.
- Well-organized and handle multiple tasks and meet required timelines.
- Experienced in the use of MS Word, Excel and Outlook and other industry related systems.
Education:
- Bachelor’s degree in engineering or statistics or equivalent.
Experience:
- 10 -12 years of property and construction underwriting experience or other relevant professional experience within the insurance industry in India & South Asia.
