A BluePearl Surgery Technician is responsible for some post-operative client communication and must be able to work independently while contributing to a larger team goal. Prefer to have a minimum of two or more years of experience in a veterinary hospital. A rotating on call schedule is required once training has been completed.
As a Surgery Veterinary Technician, you will:
Provide nursing care to stable patients according to hospital standards of care and core values.
Utilize their ability to place peripheral intravenous catheter in cephalic vein.
Performs physical exam; accurately counts heart, pulse rate, capillary refill time, mucous membranes, temperature, respiratory rate and effort.
Understands normal vital parameters and alerts doctor when abnormal.
Able to set up intravenous fluids.
Administers subcutaneous fluids.
Can operate all brands of intravenous fluid pumps and can troubleshoot errors.
Able to disconnect and connect patient from intravenous fluids aseptically.
Ability to monitor patient response to fluid therapy including signs of overload.

Schedule: The schedule for this role will be 4 ten-hour shifts.
Pay: $- / hour
This pay band is a starting point and is dependent on experience and advancement through our leveling system .
** Candidates with VTS credentialing are eligible for compensation commensurate with experience**
We also offer competitive shift differential pay for eligible hours worked for nights and weekends.
Shift differentials are based on a 4-hour minimum.
For example:
Mon – Fri: 6pm to 8am = $ hift Differential
Sat & Sun: 6pm to 8am = Shift Differential

Our 38,000-square-foot hospital has onsite CT, a linear accelerator, an endolaser and digital radiography. We focus exclusively on emergency treatment and advanced specialty veterinary care. Our departments include ER, Cardiology, Critical Care, Internal Medicine, Medical Oncology, Radiation Oncology, Urgent Care, Ophthalmology, and Surgery.
Our BluePearl Emergency Veterinary Technicians:
Induce, monitor and recover anesthesia in patients and use anesthesia/monitoring equipment.
Perform digital radiography using proper technique including proper positioning of patients.
Have a complete understanding of normal ranges of patient vital signs, including but not limited to heart and respiratory rate, temperature, blood pressure and oxygen saturation.
Obtain and interpret blood pressure and other vital signs and alert Veterinarian to changes and issues.
Identify patients at risk for arrest and initiate CPR.
Properly calculate medical math (including constant rate infusions) and administer medications via appropriate routes and duration.
Are proficient at performing phlebotomy and placing intravenous catheters in all peripheral vessels.
Place and maintain feeding tubes.
Have a passion for mentoring and training other co-workers.
Have patience and empathy to address client concerns.

As an Ophthalmology Veterinary Technician, you will:
Perform basic ophthalmic diagnostic tests (tear quantity, glaucoma testing, ulcer testing) and help hold patients for detailed ocular exam
Perform advanced ophthalmic diagnostic testing (retinal electrical function, etc.)
Set-up and assist with procedures and surgeries that restore comfort and vision ranging from outpatient procedures to basic and complex surgeries
Outpatient procedures: diamond burr debridement (to stimulate corneal healing), CO2 laser (to remove eyelid margin masses)
Surgical procedures including eyelid surgeries, cherry eye surgery, corneal grafts, cataract surgery, retinal surgery, glaucoma surgery
For patients undergoing sedation or anesthesia, place IV catheters and fluids, administer drugs through various route, perform and monitor sedation/anesthesia (with advances skills including constant rate infusions, paralytics, ventilation, etc.)

Help organize and maintain specialized ophthalmic equipment and supplies
