Role Description

This is a full-time on-site role for a Research Associate in the Energy Sector (Policy & Regulation) located in Bengaluru. The Research Associate will be responsible for analyzing energy markets, managing energy data, and conducting industry research to support policy and regulation development.

Responsibilities :

1. Conduct in-depth research on energy policies, regulatory frameworks, and market trends, with a focus on India’s energy transition.
2. Analyze the implications of energy regulations on key stakeholders, including government bodies, private sector players, utilities, and investors.
3. Prepare white papers, and presentations capturing critical insights on energy policies notified by the Central and State governments, regulatory changes like Deviation settlement mechanism, grid reforms, forecasting and scheduling reforms, open access and green energy open access reforms, etc and the geopolitical events and its impact on Indian energy security.
4. Structure research problems, and contribute to team discussions on strategic initiatives.
5. Engage with government agencies, private sector entities, and industry leaders through meetings, emails, and conference calls to understand the issues and write concept papers on those issues.
6. Compile, analyze, and synthesize quantitative and qualitative data to provide actionable insights for policy advocacy, regulatory analysis and concept papers.
7. Support IPPAI’s advocacy initiatives by preparing expert analysis on regulatory reforms and renewable energy policies.
8. Utilize key research databases, Microsoft Office tools (Excel, PowerPoint, Word), and apply business research frameworks to generate impactful insights.

Skills & Qualifications:

• Master’s degree from a reputed institute with minimum 3 years of experience in policy analysis, regulatory research, or energy consulting.
• Strong understanding and expertise in India’s power sector.
• Excellent writing, communication, and interpersonal skills with a solution-oriented approach.
• Ability to draw insights from data, structure reports, and develop clear storyboards for presentations.
• Proven ability to work in a fast-paced, collaborative environment with multiple stakeholders.

Key Responsibilities

• Conducts techno-commercial review for conventional and renewable projects including solar, Wind and BESS
• Review operations data of power plants
• Compiles data from design documents, contracts
• Review technical inputs of financial model
• Data analysis and crunching
• Draft inputs to technical due diligence, construction and operation monitoring report
• Presenting data in meaningful formats to be used by project teams

Preferred Qualifications

• 3-5 years of experience in technical due diligence or similar roles
• Graduation in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering; Masters degree in Engineering or Finance preferred;
• Understanding of basic concepts in power and infrastructure projects
• Fully comfortable with Microsoft office suite and especially Microsoft excel, exposure to other database management tools would be a plus

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor's Degree + 2-4 years experience OR Master's degree. 2-4+ years experience in a business/consulting environment. All applicants must be able to complete pre-employment onboarding requirements (if selected) which may include any/all of the following: criminal/civil background check, drug screen, and motor vehicle records search, in compliance with any applicable laws and regulations.

For Transaction projects: reviewing project contracts, operational data and technical inputs to financial model for technical due diligence projects, , prepare preliminary write-up of individual sections of technical due diligence report, review operations of projects and summarize findings, review construction status of under development projects and summarize findings
For Strategy projects: Do data research on trends; Conduct analysis based on defined objectives; Summarize findings in concise manner
Exposure & Opportunity to work on new technologies, due diligence as well as strategy projects
Worked on Technical Due Diligence engagements
3-5 years of experience in energy consulting or with energy developer
Experience in techno-commercial contract reviews like PPA, EPC, Interconnection agreement, etc.
Understanding of basic concepts in energy and infrastructure projects
Comfortable with Microsoft office suite – Word, Excel and power point

Entitlement & Compliance :  

• Extensive research on the identification of stake holders and the process in renewable energy power purchase and supply to the end consumers.  
• Gain good idea on the changing policy and regulatory framework of the renewable energy sector across globe, specifically Japan & US 

Skills:
