The offshore structural engineer will provide subject area expertise for project and operation support, including greenfield and brownfield projects, operational modifications, life extension, and decommissioning support. The engineer will proactively collaborate with other subject areas and contractors to systematically resolve technical challenges, apply sound engineering judgment to drive integrated, pragmatic solutions for risk management, project delivery, operational efficiency, defect elimination, and standardization.

The offshore structural engineer would be based in Pune, India.

We are looking for a candidate with broad experience in both topside (floating or fixed) and jacket design, construction, and installation, as well as a proven technical background who can make fit-for-purpose recommendations for projects and operations. What you will deliver

Responsibilities

  • You will be a coordinated member of the central Civil & Structural (C&S) team, Pune branch, providing technical service work for operations and projects to ensure the safe delivery of projects and the maintenance of operating assets in a suitable condition to deliver the company’s safety and business goals.
  • As an offshore structural engineer, you will:
  • define the structural engineering scope of work for new construction, modifications to existing assets, life extension, and decommissioning, focusing on topside structure or jacket;
  • Provide technical assurance for third-party engineering deliveries, ensuring design and operations follow industry codes, company technical practices, and performance standards;
  • Perform independent verification for challenging analyses conducted by third party engineers;
  • Manage relationships with third-party providers and contractors;
  • assess the impact of significant weight and metocean changes to operating assets, and

The senior offshore structural engineer will provide deep technical expertise in Structural Integrity Management (SIM) activities including structural analyses of fixed offshore installations and will work in support of the regional structural engineering team.

What you will deliver

  • Being an integrated member (remotely) of the Regional Civil and Structural Engineering team to manage the regional offshore structures in a suitable condition to deliver the company’s safety and business goals.
  • Act as the bp in-house structural analysis expert, you will lead a small team of engineers to deliver structural analyses such as: in-place, seismic, pushover, fatigue analysis for the fleet of fixed offshore jacket structures.
  • Develop and update of Bases of Assessment documents for fixed offshore platforms.
  • Manage and maintain region offshore platforms weight databases to support day to day operations. Update and publish Annual Weight analysis reports.
  • Manage, maintain and update (future proof) the offshore platform computer models.
  • Develop and update region offshore platforms Load Plan Master documents, where the operation live loads allocated on topside deck laydown areas.
  • Support the regional deployed C&S engineers to deliver the regional structural integrity management plans based on company guidance and industry codes.
  • Supporting the regional severe weather evacuation preparation and following a rare extreme storm, seismic or ship impact event; or during winter storm inspection.
  • Approving modifications and associated weight changes on platforms, and maintaining as-designed and as-is structural models for the platforms.
  • Leading efforts to ensure structural risks are understood, controlled, and continuously reduced across the business to deliver safe and reliable operating results, effectively communicating risks to business and technical partners.
  • Codifying operation experience and collaborating with the central engineers to drive consistency across regions.

About the Role

This role will provide a broad range of Geofluids & Petroleum Systems Analysis skills to BP’s global business. Experience of basin modelling, for charge access, fluid property prediction, seal effectiveness assessment and pore pressure prediction are essential. Experience of applying geochemistry to exploration and to production and appraisal is also required.

What will you deliver

Responsibilities will be varied and will therefore require a candidate with a broad skillset and extensive industry experience. Required skills are:

  • Exploration: the application of Petroleum Systems Analysis for basin access, and the assessment of petroleum charge and seal effectiveness risk for prospects.

  • Appraisal / Development: Describing the distribution and properties of the fluid across the field. Detection of compartmentalisation and assessment of fluid quality.

  • Production: Fluid surveillance (time lapse geochemistry) and production allocation.

  • New-Well Delivery: Pre-drill prediction of pressure, temperature and fluids-related HSSE hazards, such as gaseous hydrogen sulphide.

Must have educational qualifications

  • University Degree in Geology or related subject.

  • Master's degree in Petroleum Geology or a Ph.D would be an advantage.

Minimum years of relevant experience

  • 3-10 years of relevant industry experience, including some in an exploration and geological well planning environment.

What you will deliver

· Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent

Preferred education/certifications:

· Chartered Engineer or Registered Professional Engineer

Minimum years of relevant experience:

· Minimum 7+ years in oil and gas/petrochemical/ refining/ chemical or equivalent, with minimum 3 years experience of mechanical engineering work in capital projects.

Total years of experience:

· 7+ Years

Must have experiences:

· A good knowledge of mechanical engineering fundamentals related to pressure systems and mechanical equipment

including:

o Failure modes of pressure equipment

o Applicable design codes (ASME, BSI, ISO, IOGP)

· Experience of mechanical engineering delivery in Projects including design, specification, procurement, fabrication and

commissioning.

· Some technical knowledge of mechanical engineering design such as vessels and process equipment packages

· Track record of delivery on a major project

· Pragmatic decision maker, willing to challenge and ensure engineering value is delivered.

· Ability to communicate effectively with all levels of the project team, contractors and engineering leadership.

Good to have experiences/skills (Can be trained for – learning/on-the-job):

· Experience of operating and maintaining mechanical equipment

· Experience in the design of piping, pressure vessels, heat exchangers, tanks and valves.

· Experience in mechanical handing and layouts design

· Experience of working with remote team and collaborative approach to delivery

· Self-motivated with a willingness to learn from others and work with minimum direction.
