The Tarnanthi Education Coordinator is accountable for the research, development, implementation, delivery and evaluation of Tarnanthi Education programs and resources. This includes delivering workshops, writing resources and supporting the Tarnanthi Festival more broadly.
Lead, create and deliver education programs both onsite and online, activities and resources, with a specific focus on Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander artists. Ensure programs are accessible, learner-centred and based on the Australian Curriculum, Early Years Learning Framework and SACE learning assessment requirements.
Develop and foster effective partnerships across educational institutions including the Department for Education, community organisations, First Nations artists, government departments, the business sector and other cultural institutions.
Coordinate and deliver Tarnanthi education programs to South Australian schools in metropolitan Adelaide and regional South Australia. Support the education team with developing and managing the Studio, including coordinating artists to be contracted, ensuring materials are stocked and assisting with the delivery of the Studio in particular when part of Tarnanthi.
Tertiary qualifications in Education (essential).
Tertiary qualifications in art history, fine arts or museum studies (desirable)
Experience in planning and implementing education programs for students of all ages, ability and demography.
Knowledge of R-12 curriculum developments and an appreciation for the tertiary sector with experience teaching at an early childhood,
primary or secondary level.
Good general knowledge of art history including sound knowledge of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Art.
Report and publication-standard writing skills along with oral presentation skills and the ability to communicate effectively with a wide
range of people in both oral and written form.
Ability to establish sound working relationships with a variety of staff and volunteers and the ability to communicate effectively with
students, educators, arts professionals and organisations.
Contributes to a culture that values and respects diversity and models this in all interactions.

About the opportunity
The University of Sydney School of Dentistry (Sydney Dental School) is ranked amongst the top dental schools internationally and is one of the largest dental schools in Australia. Sydney Dental School (SDS) has campuses in the Sydney Dental Hospital (in inner-eastern Sydney), the Westmead Centre for Oral Health at Westmead Hospital and the Nepean Centre for Oral Health (in western Sydney), and outreach service-based teaching is undertaken across the state of NSW.
The Graduate Diploma in Clinical Dentistry (Oral Implants) has been the premier implant course in Australia for almost 30 years. This highly successful program is organised in six didactic blocks spanning 18 months (or three semesters) and demonstrates SDS integration with the community in preparing general dentists to place and restore dental implants.
The role will coordinate the Graduate Diploma in Clinical Dentistry (Oral Implants). This is a part-time position organising and administering the entire program in accordance with University of Sydney award programs.
Your key responsibilities will be to:
facilitate selection of candidates for the program by shortlisting applications and interviewing prospective candidates
design and deliver multi-disciplinary work-integrated learning units and content for the program
design and deliver quality educational units of study and experiences that support student needs and meet curriculum requirements including:
organising and delivering lectures during the blocks in conjunction with other guest lecturers
working with the timetabling team to book in-house facilities
organising facilities and equipment for each lecturer before the commencement of each lecture
marking of assignments/exams including allocation to other markers
collection of reports and marks from mentors and examiners for each candidate as part of the assessment and feedback process
arrange submission of final marks for each unit of study for each candidate
engage beyond the University to develop a profile through conferences, seminars and outreach activities including:
negotiating the appropriate use of external facilities and materials donated by companies
recruitment of surgical and restorative mentors for each candidate - mentors may be specialist or general dentists who are experienced in oral implant treatment
working closely with lecturers and mentors to make sure they have clear guidelines to teach candidates
working with the Planning Committee on a regular basis to manage the program
attendance at DCD coordinator meetings, produce minutes from the committee meetings and action items arising
apply scholarship and knowledge of contemporary pedagogical practice to innovate education
support the supervision of DCD students.
About you
AHPRA registered
Bachelor’s degree and post graduate qualifications in a relevant field
experience as an effective unit, course or program coordinator or director (especially for large classes), as evidenced by student and staff feedback
demonstrated success in designing, implementing and evaluating teaching and learning initiatives
extensive knowledge and understanding of contemporary teaching practices and assessment in clinical and/or simulation settings
a dental clinician or academic with extensive clinical skills and experience
