JOB PURPOSE:
Supervision and technical direction to hourly, salaried, and management personnel engaged in design, development or research activities related to a single technology, component, product, or process which accomplish product maintenance and new product introduction objectives.
JOB DUTIES:
Reporting to this position are various levels of engineers, technologists, and support personnel in one geograhic location. The supervision role accounts for up to 100% of this assignment. The remainder of the time, the incumbent acts as an individual contributor, bringing technical expertise to the project as well. The incumbent needs to coach and facilitate the development of the work group to develop collaborative relationships among themselves, with customers, suppliers, other cross functional groups, and internal customers to ensure goals are achieved. The incumbent would set strategy at the section level. The section would solve problems for a single technology, component, product, or process.
Project scope will vary from a moderate technical focus on a component, product, or sub-product, and will require incumbent to broaden business understanding.
Therefore, the ability to draw upon foundational product development skills such as conceptual design, development of product and/or process, data analysis & extraction, failure resolution & prevention, and requirements management is required; as well as, ever increasing skill in technical project management, development of product, internal and external requirements management, and cost-value management. The ability to draw upon knowledge of more than one engineering function, technology, component, system, product, or process is required. This role requires that the incumbent increases understanding of product technology and process and the customers' business and needs.

Decisions may also affect warrantees, sales, customer perception, and the product through technology and core competency. Primary accountability for operating expense budget.
BACKGROUND/EXPERIENCE:
Bachelor's degree in an accredited Engineering or Materials Science curriculum plus 13-15 years of previous experience or a master's degree in an Engineering, Materials Science curriculum plus 9-12 years of previous experience or a doctorate degree in Engineering plus 3-5 years of previous experience.
Experience in Foundry and Magma Simulation would be an added advantage.
