Role Overview

We are seeking a proactive and detail-oriented New Product Development & Packaging Manager with at least 3 years of experience in the FMCG sector. The ideal candidate will support the development of innovative food products and ensure packaging solutions meet functional, aesthetic, and regulatory standards. This role requires cross-functional coordination, technical insight, and a strong understanding of consumer-centric packaging trends.

Key Responsibilities – NPD & Packaging Manager

· Assist in the development and trial of new food products from concept to commercialization

· Coordinate with R&D, production, and marketing teams to align product specifications and packaging formats

· Evaluate packaging materials for durability, compatibility, and compliance with food safety standards

· Conduct shelf-life studies and packaging performance tests under various conditions

· Ensure packaging designs meet branding, labelling, and regulatory requirements (FSSAI, barcode, expiry, etc.)

· Liaise with vendors for packaging development, sampling, and cost optimization

· Handle vendor relationships with strong communication and negotiation skills to ensure timely delivery and quality standards

· Work within strictly constructed timelines to meet product launch schedules and operational deadlines

· Maintain documentation for product trials, packaging specifications, and regulatory submissions

· Monitor market trends and competitor packaging innovations to support product differentiation

· Support quality and compliance teams during audits and packaging-related inspections

· Contribute to sustainability initiatives by exploring eco-friendly packaging alternatives

Eligibility Criteria – NPD & Packaging Manager

• Minimum 3 years of experience in product development or packaging within FMCG or food manufacturing

• Basic understanding of food safety standards, packaging technologies, and regulatory norms

• Proficiency in MS Office and documentation practices; familiarity with packaging software is a plus

• Strong coordination skills with cross-functional teams and external vendors

JOB DESCRIPTION:

1. Being the Senior position in the company, the candidate must be capable of identifying and bringing new business opportunities and converting into successful products. Responsible for reporting to CEO on key issues of New Product development.
2. Researches and monitors existing client base and industry developments and identifies potential new product opportunities.
3. Work in close co-ordination with customers, understanding the requirements and identifying / suggesting appropriate improvements.
4. Works with New Product Development and Design departments to establish a design, technology, product development and vendor strategy. Manages project budgets and prepares financial analysis reports for top management.
5. Knowledge in New Product Development using Customer input and developing products through Reverse Engineering concepts, product life cycle testing, design & development activities.
6. Knowledge in preparation of product costing.
7. Ensuring prototypes are developed on schedule and within budgets.
8. Supporting pilot lot production of new products.
9. APQP Document Preparation, submission & Approval.
10. PPAP document preparation (supporting role with NPD) / Coordinating with customers for New Products submission with PPAP documents.
11. Responsible for organizing CFT meetings at every stage of the project and keep records of the same. Ensures that project/department milestones/goals are met and adhering to approved budgets.
12. Responsible for procurement of material for product development as per the defined process.
13. Responsible for vendor development for all the child parts as per BOM list.
14. Responsible for Creating and updating database of design records for future reference purposes.
15. Responsible for implementing the QMS in his function as per IATF 16949: 2016 QMS
16. Ensuring discipline is maintained and culture of performance is inculcated in the team.
17. Establish accountability and ownership in his team towards achievement of deliverables against the plan.
18. Ensure coordination and communication between internal teams for sharing relevant inputs on time including the support functions.
19. Identify training requirements of his team members and recommends training programs accordingly. Ensures his team members are imparted training to bridge the gap.
20. Provide coaching, direction and leadership support to direct reports / team members to achieve business results.

DESIRED CANDIDATE PROFILE:

Diploma or Graduate Engineer in Mechanical Engineering with minimum of 8+ years of experience in Automobile or Auto Components manufacturing industry is preferred.

Candidate reports to top management on daily basis. Manages subordinate staff in the day-to-day performance of their jobs. Must be a true first level manager.

Experience and knowledge in Solenoid valves, Switches, Sensor and mechanical sub-assemblies

Candidates from Chennai will be given preference.

Good knowledge in IATF 16949 QMS and must have good Analytical, and decision-making skills.

Good experience in Automotive Tier -1 customers handling & fulfilling their Requirements

Knowledge in Automotive Core tools (APQP, PPAP, FMEA)

Excellent in Communication, Reporting, Planning and Presentation internally & externally.

The ideal candidate will have extensive experience in design, development, design calculations, FEA analysis, prototype validation and product improvement, preferably in heavy machinery industry. The Design Head will lead a team of engineers, ensuring products are safe, reliable, functional, and cost-effective, while driving benchmarking and concept generation for continuous development and improvement.

• Lead New Product Development: Manage the end-to-end design and development process for new products, ensuring they meet customer needs and technical requirements.
