Key Responsibilities –
Mechanical System Management:
- Manage and oversee all mechanical systems within the data center, including HVAC, cooling systems, chillers, and related infrastructure.
- Ensure 24/7 uptime of cooling and environmental control systems to maintain optimal operating conditions for servers and networking equipment.
- Work with Facilities Assistant/Manager providing a yearly comprehensive periodic maintenance regime.
- Inspect buildings, grounds and equipment for unsafe or malfunctioning conditions.
- Troubleshoot, evaluate and recommend system upgrades.
Capacity Planning and Optimization:
- Conduct capacity planning to ensure the data center's mechanical infrastructure can support current and future IT equipment loads.
- Identify and implement efficiency improvements to optimize cooling systems and reduce energy consumption.
Maintenance and Repairs:
- Coordinate preventive maintenance and repairs for mechanical equipment, working closely with vendors and contractors.
- Respond promptly to equipment failures, ensuring minimal impact on data center operations.
- Author or approve work procedures to cover electrical troubleshooting, repair, retrofit, and maintenance activities, with an emphasis on assessing & mitigating personnel and system risk.

Compliance and Standards:
- Ensure compliance with industry standards, codes, and regulations related to data center mechanical systems.

- Develop and keep up to date all site electrical procedures including EOPs, SOPs and MOPs. All documentation should be consistent with current client standards.
Emergency Response:
- Develop and implement emergency response plans for mechanical system failures, including contingency measures and disaster recovery procedures.
Vendor Management:
- Collaborate with equipment suppliers, contractors, and service providers to maintain and upgrade mechanical systems.
- Negotiate contracts and manage vendor relationships effectively.
Training and Knowledge Sharing:
- Provide training and guidance to data center staff on mechanical systems, best practices, and safety protocols.
- Stay current with industry trends and emerging technologies in data center cooling and mechanical infrastructure.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering or a related field; a Master's degree may be preferred.
- Extensive experience (typically 12+ years) in managing mechanical systems in a data center environment.
- Strong knowledge of data center cooling and HVAC systems, including precision air conditioning units and CRAC/CRAH units.
- Familiarity with energy-efficient cooling solutions and environmental monitoring systems.
- Excellent problem-solving and troubleshooting skills.
- Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, 24/7 data center environment.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills for collaboration with cross-functional teams.
- Experience with data center infrastructure management (DCIM) tools.
