**Brief Description/Job Summary: Mechanical Design Engineer - Product Development**
GCC Vadodara/Chennai campus seeks to hire highly motivated Mechanical Design Engineer - New Product Development (NPD) who can contribute to the growth of Xylem's India Technology Center and its expansion into disruptive technology and business solutions. This role is central to advancing Xylem's water treatment technology portfolio through innovative product development, design optimization, and collaboration with global teams. The selected candidate will work on prototyping, validation, and transition-to-manufacturing of new products, leveraging expertise in mechanical design, advanced manufacturing methods, and simulation tools. This position requires an innovative mindset, problem-solving in evolving environments, and the ability to translate complex requirements into reliable, cost-effective, and competitive product solutions. **Essential Duties/Principal Responsibilities:**
+ Support new product development (NPD) initiatives with design validation, prototyping, testing, and smooth transition to manufacturing.
+ Lead end-to-end product design from concept to detailed design
+ Apply innovative thinking to improve systems and components, asking critical questions and finding solutions even with fuzzy or evolving requirements.
+ Collaborate with suppliers, production, and cross-functional teams to resolve technical queries and ensure design/material compliance.
+ Leverage expertise in welded and cast constructions for robust product designs.
+ Work with CAD tools (Creo preferred; SolidWorks/Inventor welcome) and PLM systems (Windchill, DBWorks, Vault) for product design and documentation.
+ Prepare conceptual and detailed product models, manufacturing drawings, and BOMs.
+ Design and develop mechanical components and assemblies; create detailed drawings and BOMs.
+ Conduct technical risk analysis and FMEA for design validation.
+ Coordinate with vendors for RFQs, techno-commercial evaluations, and compliance reviews
+ Provide technical support during prototyping and production; troubleshoot and resolve mechanical design and assembly issues.
+ Collaborate with cross functional team for advanced analyses such as static calculations, vibration studies, and FEA simulations.
+ Bring or develop knowledge in advanced manufacturing methods such as 3D printing (metal/plastic), injection molding, and plastic (PE) welding fabrication.
+ Apply (or willingness to learn) hydraulic and heat simulation techniques as part of design validation and optimization.
+ Partner with regional/global teams to ensure alignment with project requirements and customer needs.
+ Independently manage assigned tasks, ensuring quality, accuracy, and timely execution.
+ Willingness to travel globally for prototype testing and international project alignment
**Must Have:**
+ Proficiency in at least one CAD platform: Creo preferred; SolidWorks/Inventor welcome.
+ Knowledge of pressure vessel design principles and standards such as ASME.
+ Strong knowledge of international standards and industry codes in mechanical design.
+ Hands-on manufacturing or OEM industry experience.
+ Solid understanding of mechanical system design, application, and fabrication.
**Good to Have:**
+ Experience with disinfection technologies such as UV, chlorination and ozone systems.
+ Exposure to wastewater treatment systems and equipment design.
+ Knowledge of product validation, testing, and reliability methodologies.
+ Familiarity with PLM tools such as Windchill, DBWorks, Vault.
+ Project management skills for coordinating cross-functional tasks, timelines, and deliverables
+ Awareness of emerging technologies in advanced manufacturing (e.g., 3D printing, injection molding, welding) and simulation.
**Qualifications:**
+ 4-Year bachelor's degree / 4 + 2-Year master's degree in Mechanical Engineering from a recognized university
+ 3-6 years of progressive experience in product development, sustain engineering, or OEM industries.
+ Deep expertise in water and wastewater disinfection technologies, with awareness of emerging trends and innovations.
