Role Overview

The Key Responsibilities

As an engineering manager, you'll be leading a local team technically and organisationally, driving our platform forwards and delivering quality solutions to business-critical customer requirements. Based in Bangalore, your team collaborates in a dynamic global organisation, with fellow engineers, business analysts, project managers and business stakeholders across multiple locations.

  • Serves as people leader for the direct reports,
  • Unblocks progress and solves problems at the level of the organisation,
  • Owns the technical aspect of the assigned teams' delivery,
  • Owns the effectiveness of the teams' development processes,
  • Drives the technical roadmap for the platform,
  • Oversees and approves the designs done by lead developers and ensures they are aligned with the roadmaps,
  • Oversees the velocity and quality of the code produced by the developers in the assigned teams.

The Key Requirements

Technical skills:

  • Lead JavaScript (TypeScript) developer with good software design principles and the ability to write robust code and accompanying test suites,
  • With 10+ years of relevant experience,
  • Expert in React, Redux, RX JS, NPM/Yarn, webpack, CSS, HTML and the rest of web stack,
  • Writes efficient, clear and well tested code, and able to articulate what was built and why,
  • Built complex, real-time (event-driven) multi-modular single page applications,
  • Optimized performance of latency sensitive systems,
  • Delivered features across full stack,
  • Preferably with Java as backend technology stack.

Functional skills:

  • Financial Market domain knowledge, preferably investment banking,
  • Derivatives product knowledge,
  • e-trading technology experience.

Soft skills:

  • Proven technical leadership experience,
  • Experience leading teams in an agile product development environment,
  • Effective communicator, fluent in English (speaking and writing),
  • Experienced in driving requirements and development efforts,
  • Proactive and autonomous self-starter,
  • Experienced in the end-to-end design, development and support complex systems,
  • Keen problem solver, with strong sense of ownership and ability to deal with ambiguity.

  • Definition of the teams' org design and technical roadmaps, contribution to the platform roadmap.

  • Take ownership of the delivery of assigned teams. Take ownership for and drive the delivery of org-wide and platform-wide initiatives and issue remediations.

  • Own assigned processes at the level of the organisation. Design and own regional organisational processes, e.g. hiring, talent development, production support, etc.

People & Talent

  • Drive hiring and retention in the region. People leadership, coaching and mentorship to own team and wider organisation.

Risk Management

  • According to Global and FM Technology risk management frameworks

  • According to Global and FM Technology governance frameworks

Roles And Responsibilities
An individual in this role is responsible for design, development, deployment and support of products and platforms that leverage Java based technologies and enable large scale event processing in engineering products in GS. The individual will engage in both server side as well as front-end development as may be required to achieve the desired outcomes. Specific responsibilities include:

  • Design component as well as integration architecture for large scale web applications
  • Develop, test and support features for globally deployed web apps.
  • Follow best practices throughout the project lifecycle
  • Participate in team-wide design and code reviews.
  • Keep abreast of emerging technical trends, so applicability to GS products can be determined.

Qualification
Bachelor's Degree (or equivalent or higher) in Computer Science, Information Technology, Electronics and Communication. Overall, 7 – 12 years of experience with a minimum of 5 years in developing Java-based applications.

Essential Skills

  • Technical
  • Strong programming skills in Java and Python with proficiency in object-oriented design principles
  • Experience with Java frameworks such as DropWizard, Spring and Hibernate
  • Familiarity with web development frameworks (Angular or React)
  • Experience with Testing frameworks (JUnit, TestNG, Cucumber, Mockito)
  • Hands-on experience with building stream-processing systems using Hadoop, Spark and related technologies
  • Familiarity with distributed storage systems like Cassandra, MongoDB and JanusGraph.
  • Experience with various messaging systems, such as Kafka or RabbitMQ
  • Experience with Caching solutions like Hazelcast, Redis or MemCache
  • Knowledge of build tools like Maven or Gradle
  • Familiarity with continuous integration and continuous deployment (CI/CD) pipelines especially using Git
  • Working knowledge of Unix/Linux experience
  • Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail
