Roles & Responsibility :

As a Senior Static Mechanical Engineer you will report to the Static Mechanical Engineering Manager.

You will be a domain expert in the mechanical design and integrity assessment of pressure systems.

Through your deep technical expertise, you will deliver work across all four of our key work streams:Technical Services Work - Providing expert advice and analysis support to the major pressure systems engineering issues across bp.

Standards and Practice - Support the development and refinement of Engineering Technical Practices (ETPs)

Discipline Health - Deliver pressure systems training courses, represent bp on external codes and standards committees and carry out activities aimed at continuously developing and improving the health of the static mechanical engineering discipline.

Strategic Initiatives - Contribute to technical aspects of strategic initiatives including technology development, process safety improvement initiatives, low carbon project developments.

You will be part of a growing hub in Pune India and a growing team of skilled professional engineers at the hub. As a Senior Engineer in the hub you will be asked to provide technical advice and mentorship to the growing team of local engineers. As a Senior Engineer in the I&E central engineering team you will be required to apply your skills to engineering issues across the whole of bp. This will include production and refining, projects and operations.

You will work alongside other pressure systems discipline engineering experts and are encouraged to further your own expertise in addition to contributing to the development of other mechanical engineers. You must be motivated, self-starting, possess great communication skills, and be able to work with engineers at all levels.

Apply sophisticated knowledge and skills to resolve the most challenging and safety critical problems, driving risk mitigation. You will work with other disciplines, teams and contractors to identify safe and competitive solutions to problems. Provide advice on all mechanical engineering aspects of pressure vessels, heat exchangers, piping, valves and tanks in support of BP’s projects and operations. Carry out stress analysis, fracture mechanics and fatigue analysis in support of fitness for service assessments and incident investigations.

Review, support and guide detailed analysis carried out by third parties to ensure a robust resolution of the issue and a quality result to bp.

Advance learning by contributing to the development and up-keep of bp Engineering Technical Practice’s and provides external representation to API, ASME and IOGP etc. as required. Be an active member of the relevant engineering communities and shares standard process and learnings.

Support the scale-up of low carbon businesses, providing static mechanical expertise and ensuring that the vital skills are maintained/developed to support the business going forward.

Develop and maintain strong technical relationships with key stakeholders and Operating Functions.

Education:

Degree qualified (B.Sc./BEng) in a Mechanical Engineering discipline (MS, MEng or PhD preferred).

Experience:

Technical Skills: 10+ years post graduate experience in engineering analysis of pressure systems

  • Experienced in either sophisticated analysis, classical stress analysis, finite element analysis, fatigue or fracture.
  • Experienced of piping vibration in design or operation.
  • Experience of mechanical field input into incident investigation.
  • Experience of storage tank design and analysis including storage of Ammonia

Experience in the use of the following tools would be beneficial:

The tank focused Pressure Systems Integrity Engineer supports the tank RBI implementation and sustainability, tank integrity assessments and supporting our production and operations assets requests related to storage tanks and pressure systems. This is a technical role, expected to proactively support assigned assets for their successful RBI implementation, management and ever-greening, engaging with otherfieldss, sub-functions, and contractors to implement the pace setter RBI processes.

The role is expected to support the assigned assets via proactive data driven analysis, continuous improvement of integrity processes, coaching and technical support and guidance for PSI, mechanical, maintenance and reliability engineers on Tank RBI excellence and applications, ever-greening of the bp’s tank integrity strategies and embedding continuous improvement and learning into our RBI standard technical practices.

What you will deliver:

Discipline Related:

  • Develop and maintain tank related and tank RBI methodology documents, such as management system and technical instructions consistent with industry standard processes and regulatory requirements.
  • Support the tank inspection optimization and standardization activities, develop the optimization opportunities, work instructions and job aides as required and needed
  • Implement Tank RBI programs in commercially available software tools and maintaining the inspection data management systems (IDMS) synchronicity. Supervise the sustained health and lead self-verification practices and KPIs around it.
  • Perform risk analysis, updating RBI inspection plans, and ever-greening the Tank RBI analysis.
  • Verify Tank RBI data quality and assumptions through quality audits.
  • Facilitate damage mechanism assessments/reviews and identify damage mechanisms.
  • Support global integrity programs implementation and works with operating sites
  • Resolve inspection and test plans for tanks.
  • Review inspection results and updating tank RBI data and re-assessment of the risk including the reviewing of results with the site representatives for final acceptance
  • Maintaining the bp tank database including adding new tanks, removing demolished tanks and gathering MOC’s affecting critical tank data
  • Participate/perform mechanical integrity (MI) gap assessments and audits.
  • Develop work processes/flow and conduct training.
  • Support the capability development in the areas of tanks, including development and delivery of training materials and coaching site users
  • Participate in the tank community to promote sharing of knowledge, experience and standard processes across P&O.
  • Work with bp technical teams to resolve defects and performance issues of MI systems and RBI tools.
  • Support and fully engages with TAR, Projects, Maintenance, Operations, and Integrity teams as required for scope development.

Must have education requirements:

BSc or BEng (UK), BSc (US), or international equivalent in an engineering field

Must have certifications:

API653 and/or EEMUA 159 (tank inspector and/or assessor)

Preferred education/certifications:
  • BSc or BEng (UK), BSc (US), or international equivalent in an engineering field around materials, corrosion, mechanical, civil.
Experience required:
  • 8+ years of relevant technical field experience in oil/gas or petrochemical industries, tanks, pressure systems integrity management and RBI
Must have experiences:
  • Understand tank integrity strategy concepts and have a strong solid understanding of codes such as API 575, 620, 650, API 653 and EEMUA 159.
  • Proven understanding of other codes such as API 510, 570, 571, 579, 653, ASME VIII, B31, PCC-2, ANST, PCN and ANSI.
  • Preferably certified in API 580, 510, 570 and 571.
  • Understanding of O&G integrity damaging mechanisms, risk evaluation, remaining life evaluations, FFS understanding
  • Knowledge of Tank RBI Methodology and its practical application.
  • Hands-on experience executing tank maintenance and repair plans for storage tanks.
  • Deep knowledge of storage tank RBI implementation.
  • Experience with Inspection data management systems (IDMS)
  • Skilled on creating technical documents.
  • Good expertise on optimally applying qualitative RBI analysis methodologies

  • Working experience in inspection, test, and preventive maintenance development as applicable to the recognized and generally accepted good engineering practices (RAGAGEPs).

  • Experience in tank engineering assessments based on EEMUA 159 and/or API650/653
  • Strong spreadsheet, project scheduling, and database skills

Role Synopsis:
The Process Engineer will join the Production & Operations (P&O) Projects India organisation in the engineering and quality team to provide engineering expertise , oversight, judgment and support to Projects .
The role is based at the Pune office but will require significant contractor facing work at major engineering contractor office locations in both India and possibly ex - India.

• Support the development of the process engineering scope of project options to ensure selection and progression of safe, competitive and robust develop.
• Support preparation of core project work and contribute to developments.
documents including Statements of Requirements (SOR) and Basis of Develop (BOD), as well as engineering build philosophies and strategies
• Identify and lead technical studies and baseline assessments of brownfield scope including
developing scopes of work and terms of reference; own key process design decisions and trade - offs
• Acquire, verify and consolidate technical inputs and assumptions from site and other collaborators; incorporate turnaround and operations requirements
• Develop- design philosophies and provide oversight and support to the appointed engineering-contractors in delivery of their scope during the Front End Engineering Design (FEED) and Detailed Engineering ensuring that process design aspects meet bp requireme nts, and the design intent and ISD principles are preserved
• Interpretative and clarify technical practices and relevant codes and standards and provide review and assurance of process engineering and design work
• Provide process engineering and technical inputs to key project work such as schedules,
cost estimates, business case/economics, HSSE studies etc
• Support preparation and participation in key design, safety and project evaluations and workshops such as design/PFD/P&ID reviews, plot plan, HAZOP, LOPA and environmental reviews and r eporting

• Provide oversight on performance of engineering contractors and assist Engineer Manager in contract performance management for process engineering scope

What you will need to be successful:
Must have educational qualifications:
Bachelor’s Degree in Chemical Engineering or the equivalent

Preferred education/certifications:
Chartered Engineer or Registered Professional Engineer

Minimum years of relevant experience:
• Minimum 10 + years in oil and gas/petrochemical/ refining/ chemical or equivalent , with minimum 5 years experience of process e ngineering work in c apital projects.
 

Must have experiences/skills :
• Experience as a process engineer in projects in FEED and Detailed Design of major projects ; or experience as a process engineer in design or operational roles in oil & gas, refining or chemical plants or equivalent
• Experience in handling engineering contractor performance
• Experience of major project s with strong design engineering background and sound knowledge of project processes

About the role

The Civil & Structural (C&S) Delivery Services Lead (the role) handles a centralized team of offshore structural or floating systems engineers. This team provides technical support to offshore assets across multiple regions. The role line-reports to the Chief Engineer Civil and Structural (C&S) and functionally reports to the IM Delivery Services Manager, The role will be an active member of the Chief’s Leadership Team.

The role provides technical guidance of team members, allocates proper resources to support the regional C&S Integrity Management (IM) program, promotes a consistent way of working and standardization of C&S IM procedures across the regions, supervises the technical delivery of the team in conformance with bp engineering practice, industry codes, and regulatory requirements. The incumbent will support establishing the Pune C&S IM team and recruiting the right talent for bp.

We seek a candidate with shown offshore structural or floating systems discipline knowledge and deep integrity management experience to make fit-for-purpose recommendations to operation and leaders. The incumbent should have a project, squad, or team management tracking record and can articulate challenging technical questions with risks and effectively connect with stakeholders to ensure engineering risks are understood, controlled, and continuously reduced to support safe and reliable operation.

What you will deliver

  • The incumbent will support establishing a new C&S IM support team in bp’s India Pune office with guidance from I&E C&S Field Managers and IM Delivery Services Manager.

  • Lead and empower the C&S IM team; agree on ‘ ’ goals and Continuing Professional Development (CPD) with the team; maintain check-in discussions with team members to support bp’s strategic objectives; promote knowledge sharing across assets and maintain professional development and accreditation status through the team; mentor and provide quality oversight and assurance for team members’ technical delivery in conformance with bp’s engineering practices and performance standards, industry codes, and regulatory requirements.

  • Support efforts to ensure C&S IM risks are understood, controlled, and continuously reduced across the business to support safe and reliable operation; develop and deliver technical capability plans to support the regional IM squad teams; is the focal point of contact and hold constant communication with the regional Squad Leads and IM Subject area Leads for IM resources and technical issues.

  • Support standardization of workflow processes and procedures, including anomaly management, Inspection Data Management System (IDMS), risk and engineering assessment tools, etc.

  • Keep constant communication with C&S team managers and call out high-risk activities to the Chief Engineer C&S or relevant workstream manager/advisor timely; actively contribute to the C&S Community of Practice and share some standard processes and findings.

  • Support bp group, Safe & Operation Risk Assurance (S&ORA), and subject area audit; perform self-verification of C&S IM programs and intervene, as vital.

  • Acts as an engineer to provide C&S technical support to the regional IM squad team (50%)

  • Promotes the uptake of the team’s wellbeing plan and links it to the P&C wellbeing agenda; supports the progression of the diversity and inclusion of gender and ethnicity representation in the team as opportunities arise.

  • Adheres to bp’s code of conduct, ethics and compliance rules, and values & behaviours, and is a role model for the team.

Must have educational qualifications:

  • BSc or BEng (India), BSc (US), or international equivalent in civil engineering, structural engineering, naval architecture, ocean engineering, or a closely aligned subject area.

  • Professional accreditation, incl. Professional Engineer or Chartered Engineer.

Flow assurance team provides subsea flow assurance engineering expertise and judgement in support of engineering risk, integrity management and the delivery of safe, compliant and efficient operations.

What you will deliver

  • Lead multiphase flow and flow assurance analysis within an operational or project support context, understand the relationship between such work and key flow assurance decisions, and influence others to achieve desired objectives to mitigate flow assurance risks. 

  • Lead flow assurance data analysis and presentation within an operational or project support context to enable continuous improvement in operational support, performance management of flow assurance activity and reporting of key performance metrics. 

  • Support BP’s engineering application of tools and design methods for multiphase flow, in the context of Flow Assurance, through delivering or directly managing modelling of relevant flow scenarios. 

  • Monitor, coordinate and manage BP staff flow assurance engineers, on site contract flow assurance engineers, or external suppliers, appropriate to the scale, complexity and business requirements of operating regions.

  • Challenge, prioritise and plan work requests to balance production risks with the available resources and effectiveness of response both in the short term and proactively anticipating major requirements over the next year.

  • Engage key stakeholders as appropriate to convey understanding of multiphase flow and its relevance to their context, developing and maintaining positive working relationships representing the flow assurance discipline across regions, for example by supporting key leadership forums such as asset hub tables, subsea leadership meetings, and meetings with field partners.

  • Review, update, and apply flow assurance strategies to prevent line blockages or other production upsets and minimise operating downtime as conditions change through field life. Ensure that the Operating Guidelines and Procedures embody these strategies and solutions.

  • Provide flow assurance operating philosophies to be executed by others, including chemical or operational requirements for both steady state and transient conditions (start-up and shut down).

  • Develop solutions to complex flow assurance problems that will improve safety, production efficiency and cost effectiveness.

  • Degree qualified in a relevant science or engineering discipline (chemical, mechanical or petroleum engineering).

Must have experience/skills :

The Senior Mechanical Engineer – Site Projects will join the Site Projects organization within the bpTSI discipline engineering team to provide deep static mechanical engineering expertise, judgment and support to bp’s global portfolio of exciting projects. As a Senior Mechanical Engineer deployed to our Site Projects team, this role will drive project, technical and engineering delivery through our Engineering, Procurement and Construction (EPC) partner’s by guiding, advising, reviewing and providing static mechanical and piping expertise and oversight to various project stakeholders. This role is based at the bp TSI Pune office but may also require contractor facing work at major engineering contractor offices intermittently.

What you will deliver

  • Provide static mechanical engineering expertise to P&O bp Solutions Site Projects teams through design and delivery of safe, cost effective, quality and competitive site projects.

  • Support the Site Projects Team to deliver static mechanical engineering, piping and valve scopes, including to:

  • provide technical review, guidance and approval of design engineering and construction contractor deliverables

  • equipment specification and selection as well as engineering package technical content

  • provide technical evaluations of requests for exceptions/deviations to specifications or standards

  • work with engineering contractor(s) to verify they are performing required activities, and assist in contract performance management

  • determine risks to project delivery and ensure adequate risk mitigation plans are in place

  • provide mechanical expertise to project MoCs

  • assure quality and consistency in mechanical and rotating equipment/package delivery on projects

  • Record and share relevant learnings

  • Provide mechanical expertise, technical support and facilitate as necessary in hazard identification and risk assessment processes, such as HAZID, HAZOP, and LOPA

About the Role

The Materials & Corrosion Engineer is accountable for providing corrosion and materials engineering expertise and judgement in the service of the Refinery integrity teams and projects teams in support of engineering risk and the delivery of safe, compliant, and efficient operations.

Responsibilities

  • Provide corrosion and materials engineering expertise to refinery teams operations teams across P&O (production & operations) (Operations, Maintenance & Reliability, Projects Ops, Turnarounds) to manage corrosion and materials threats on equipment.

  • Ensure pragmatic solutions are identified and implemented to manage risk, production efficiency, defect elimination and standardization, to deliver safe, reliable, and compliant operations.

  • Support damage mechanism reviews (DMR) for new equipment and revalidations.  Review and carry out corrosion rate assessment and prepare corrosion management documentation.

  • Provide corrosion input to risk-based inspection (RBI) plans.

  • Review inspection results and make repair recommendations.

  • Review and endorse corrosion-related metrics (e.g. corrosion control matrices and LOPC (Loss of Primary Containment) data) and intervene where appropriate.

  • Provide corrosion and materials engineering support to incident investigations.

  • May be required to support Biofuel and Biofuel pretreatment.

People and business related:

  • Provide visible safety leadership in accordance with bp safety leadership principles, lifesaving rules and process safety fundamentals to model desired safety behaviors

  • Record relevant learning in shared learning systems, incorporate into local activities, specifications/ practices/ procedures and raise high priority lessons

  • Support performance management through implementation, measurement, and analysis of relevant KPI’s to drive continuous improvement. 


Education:

Must have education requirements:

  • Degree in Corrosion or Materials Engineering related discipline (e.g., chemical engineering, chemistry, mechanical engineering, civil engineering).

  • Post graduate certification in corrosion.

Must have certifications:

  • API 571 refinery damage mechanisms.

  • API 580/581 RBI.

Preferred education/certifications:

  • Professional accreditation e.g., Professional Engineer, Chartered Engineer (IOM3, IChemE, Institute of Corrosion).

  • Above ground storage tank inspection, inspection data analysis for corrosion rates, API 653 remaining life assessment and risk-based inspection plan development (will be beneficial).

  • Certification and/or  in-depth knowledge NACE Senior Corrosion Technologist, BSI ISO/ ENI AS Standards, AWS/ CSWIP/ ASNT NDT Techniques

  • Relevant field experience with pressure systems integrity engineering for O&G processing facilities.

Experience job requirements:

Minimum years of relevant experience:

  • 5+ years’ experience working in the field of Corrosion or Materials Engineering in refining operations.

Total years of experience:

  • 5+ years’ experience working in the field of Corrosion or Materials Engineering in refining operations.

Must have experiences/skills (To be hired with)

  • Operational corrosion management experience.

  • Technical expertise in several areas related to the discipline applied to Refinery Operations. These include:

    • Refinery corrosion mechanisms

    • Refinery materials selection

    • Understanding of refinery processing units

    • Inspection techniques (e.g., UT, radiography, visual)

    • Failure investigation

    • Chemical treatments for corrosion control

    • Corrosion monitoring

    • Corrosion management systems for refinery operations

    • Fabric maintenance / painting

    • Certification and/or in-depth working knowledge in API 580, API 510, API 570, API 571, API 653, NACE Senior Corrosion Technologist, BS/ISO/EN/AS standards, AWS/CSWIP/ASNT NDT techniques

  • Familiar with industry standards for corrosion and integrity management and their application.

  • People leadership, teamwork, and an ability to network and influence across organizational boundaries.

  • Fluent in English, written and oral.

  • Familiar with process design, process safety, and operating conditions of typical O&G units

  • Individual must be highly motivated and a self-starter

Good to have experiences/skills (Can be trained for – learning/on-the-job):

  • Welding.

  • Sour service.

  • Integrity management in refineries and oil & gas projects.

  • Cathodic protection.

  • Erosion and erosion management.

  • Background in mechanical design, selection, fabrication and quality assurance of pressure equipment, heat exchangers, piping systems, valves, and pressure relief devices

  • Knowledgeable in Biofuel production, process of producing feedstock for various products  

  • Knowledgeable in in pretreatment in Biofuel feedstock, reactions, product purification

Role Synopsis:

The Global Concept Development (GCD) organization within P&O Projects is a worldwide organisation accountable for developing a global portfolio of upstream oil and gas projects, including decarbonizing opportunities on existing assets. We are seeking a Front-End Project Engineer (appraisal engineer) to join our central team and be based in the Projects India organisation in Pune, focused on early business and facilities planning for major projects – specifically Pre-Projects (FEL1) and Concept Development / Optimize / Pre-FEED (FEL2). The role involves screening, prioritizing and advancing driven business opportunities, and selecting safe, commercially robust project concepts. Projects typically involve complex greenfield and brownfield scopes and are expected to create future value or support decarbonization of existing assets. This role requires innovating, an agile mindset, working and decision-making under uncertainty and ambiguity, integrating diverse perspectives, learning and trying new insights/technologies, demonstrating industry solutions, operating across organizational boundaries, driving efficiency gains and building deep and dynamic partnerships with other collaborators to help shape the future of our business. The position is based in Pune.

What you will deliver
  • Demonstrate a strong commitment to HSE (Health, Safety, and Environment) by understanding and upholding relevant expectations and standards. Provide visible safety leadership by articulating HSE goals, advocating for inherently safer designs and low-carbon solutions, and proactively identifying major hazards and risks.
  • During the pre-projects screening stage (FEL 1), lead multi-functional assessment of business opportunities to generate a deliverable project portfolio that fits within the capital frame; enables delivery of the company strategy; sustains safe, compliant and reliable operations; protects/creates financial value; and advances bp’s aims. Leverage benchmarking and industry data to inform high-quality decision-making.
  • In concept development stage (FEL 2A), confirm business case viability of complex projects and select a safe and competitive project concept (making the Tier-1, concept-level, decisions) that is robust to the technical and commercial risks (i.e. no recycles or late kills) to progress into Optimize/Pre-FEED (FEL 2B) stage. Bias is towards value over volume and delivery of standardized solutions that fit better to known and established fabrication and construction execution methods.
  • In Optimize/Pre-FEED stage (FEL2B), mature and improve scope of the selected concept for value (making the Tier-2, system-level or optimization, decisions) and initiate project handover to the delivery team upon finalizing the Statement of Requirements (SoR). Support the delivery team to develop the Project Execution Plan (PEP), complete stage deliverables and set Define FM (Financial Memorandum) performance targets (informed by internal/external benchmarks).
  • Self-verify conformance against Capital Value Process requirements. Assess project gate readiness and lead resolution of gaps identified during project Gate Reviews.
  • Engage Project Managers/Engineers early in post concept selection stage to drive seamless/systematic project transition/handover and achieve readiness to enter Define (FEL 3) stage.
  • Apply decision-quality/decision-analysis principles to address Tier-1/Tier-2 decisions.
  • Manage risks/uncertainties to inform decisions considering the full lifecycle and range of expected outcomes. Serve as risk management focal for various front-end projects / scopes across regions.
  • Access Subject Matter Experts across bp and industry, as required to inform decision-making. Identifies and shares learning and best practices.
  • Develop strong relationships and collaborate with a wide range of functions/businesses that sponsor and support progression of project opportunities.
  • Manages and reports project progress, cost, schedule, safety and operability, along with any other significant metrics of project success.
What you will need to be successful

Must have educational qualifications:

  • Bachelor Degree in Chemical / Mechanical Engineering or equivalent with appropriate front-end experience.
Preferred education/certifications:
  • APM / PMP accreditation
  • Chartered Engineer or Registered Professional Engineer
Minimum years of relevant experience:
  • 7-12 years’ experience in the upstream oil & gas industry preferably with demonstrable capability in project appraisal/front-end engineering/ front-end project management.

Must have experiences/skills :

  • Self-starter and proactive mindset; inclusive and respectful individual capable of building strong relationships, influencing without authority and collaborating with others; understanding the big picture and driving focus on what matters.
  • Ability to performance manage (cost, schedule, scope) and drive corrective actions to keep project on track

  • Ability to work with complex, ambiguous, uncertain and limited data.
