About the Role:
We are seeking an Animation Director to establish the quality bar and stylistic vision for all motion in our game. You will lead the animation efforts, ensuring that every movement - from character actions to weapon handling - feels responsive, impactful, and clear. This is a mixed role where you will be operating as an individual contributor, managing people as the team grows and also overseeing our outsourced animation partners, ensuring their work is consistent with our vision and meets our high standards of quality.
Responsibilities:
- Create fluid, impactful animations which match the fast paced vision for our game
- Define technically how animation should be created, exported including rig details
- Oversee the entire animation pipeline, including rigging, keyframe animation, and implementation in Unity.
- Define and document the animation style guide and quality standards for the project.
- Direct and provide detailed feedback to a team of outsourced animators to ensure consistency and quality.
- Collaborate with the gameplay team to ensure animations enhance the core combat feel without compromising responsiveness.
- Review and approve all animation assets for the game.
- Manage the relationship and production schedule with external animation vendors.
Requirements:
- 8+ years of experience in game animation, with at least 2 years in a lead or director role.
- An outstanding portfolio that demonstrates expertise in character, weapon, and combat animation.
- Proven experience managing and directing external animation teams or outsourcing pipelines.
- Deep understanding of the principles of animation, weight, and timing.

- Animation Principles: A masterful understanding of the 12 principles of animation (e.g., squash and stretch, anticipation, timing, and arcs) is fundamental. This knowledge is what enables a director to create believable and engaging character performances.
- 3D Pipeline Knowledge: A director must understand every stage of the 3D production pipeline, including modeling, rigging, texturing, lighting, and rendering. This knowledge is crucial for troubleshooting issues, optimizing workflows, and giving precise feedback to different teams.
