Role Summary


As an Investment & Investor Relations Associate , you will play a dual role at the heart of our operations—driving both our startup investment pipeline and investor network. You will be responsible for identifying and evaluating high-potential startups, conducting deep-dive market and business analysis, and supporting portfolio companies in their growth journey. Simultaneously, you will manage and expand relationships with current and prospective angel investors, ensuring strong engagement, timely communication, and a thriving investment community.


This is a unique opportunity to work at the intersection of startups and investors in the Indian early-stage ecosystem—shaping investment decisions, supporting visionary founders, and fueling the growth of India’s next generation of companies.


Key Responsibilities


Investments


Market Research & Analysis

  • Conduct detailed industry and market research to identify trends, gaps, and emerging opportunities.
  • Prepare sector/venture-specific research reports and investment memos to inform investment decisions.


Deal Sourcing & Evaluation

  • Identify and evaluate startups for investment through pitch decks, financials, and business models.
  • Conduct due diligence, including financial, operational, and strategic assessments.


Portfolio Management

  • Support portfolio companies with strategy, operations, and connecting them with resources from our network.
  • Track portfolio performance metrics and prepare periodic reports.


Network Building

  • Build and maintain strong relationships with entrepreneurs, angel investors, co-investors, and industry experts.
  • Represent the firm at startup events, conferences, and other networking opportunities.


Investor Acquisition & Relationship Management


  • Prospect and acquire new angel investors by identifying and reaching out to high-net-worth individuals (HNWIs), family offices, and corporate investors who have a keen interest in early-stage startups.
  • Build and nurture relationships with potential investors, introducing them to Startup Sherpas, and educating them about the value of angel investing.
  • Develop personalized engagement strategies for prospective investors, guiding them through the investment process and supporting their first investments.
  • Organize and lead investor onboarding sessions, ensuring new investors understand our processes, expectations, and the startups in our portfolio.


Investor Engagement & Communications


  • Develop and maintain strong relationships with existing angel investors, ensuring they are kept informed about portfolio developments, market trends, and new investment opportunities.
  • Prepare and send regular investor communications, including quarterly reports, newsletters, and updates on portfolio performance.
  • Coordinate investor meetings, webinars, and networking events to deepen investor engagement and maintain a strong community of angel investors.


Fundraising Support


  • Assist in the creation of pitch materials and investor decks to attract new investors and raise funds for specific portfolio companies or initiatives.
  • Support the fundraising process by managing communications with interested investors and facilitating the subscription process.


Portfolio Reporting & Monitoring


  • Track and report on portfolio performance, ensuring timely and transparent updates are shared with investors.
  • Gather and analyze data from portfolio companies to create detailed performance reports and insights for investors.


Event Management & Networking


  • Represent Startup Sherpas at industry events, conferences, and investor meetups to attract new angel investors and build brand awareness.
  • Organize and manage events tailored to investor networking, ensuring a smooth and valuable experience for attendees.
  • Build and maintain relationships with industry experts, co-investors, and entrepreneurs to enhance the value proposition for both current and potential investors.


Market Research & Insights


  • Keep up to date with industry trends, market shifts, and emerging investment opportunities to share with potential and existing investors.
  • Analyze market data and provide strategic insights that can inform investor decisions and enhance investment attractiveness.


Qualifications & Skills


  • Bachelor’s degree in Business, Finance, Economics, Engineering, Communications, or a related field; MBA is a plus
  • 1–2 years of experience in venture capital, private equity, investment banking, startup ecosystems, or investor relations
  • Strong analytical skills with proficiency in financial modeling, data interpretation, and market research
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills with the ability to clearly articulate insights and investment opportunities
  • Proven ability to build and manage relationships with HNIs, investors, and startup founders
  • Highly organized with the ability to juggle multiple relationships, tasks, and timelines effectively
  • Self-motivated and results-driven with a proactive attitude and ownership mindset
  • Passionate about startups, entrepreneurship, and the Indian early-stage ecosystem
  • Experience in sales, business development, or client acquisition is a plus

  • Understand Pharma commercial data sets like Patient claims data, Rx, SP, SD, Call activity, internal CRM data etc. and can triangulate data from multiple sources that drives commercial effectiveness.

About the role

Maurice Blackburn has a long history of practising in abuse law, and of advocating on the part of survivors of childhood sexual abuse. This is a unique opportunity to establish credentials and expertise in a developing area of law.

    Our Opening and Your Responsibilities

    Financial Closing

    • Collaborate with various user departments (such as Business Finance, Sales, AP AR, etc.) to gather financial data and ensure the accuracy and completeness of entries during preparation for month-end, quarter-end, and year-end close.

    • Provide support in terms of reconciliations of accounts, investigate discrepancies, & ensure appropriate adjustments are made.

    • Prepare and post journal entries in SAP after ensuring sufficient and appropriate supporting documentation.

    • Assist in the review of ledger balances and preparation of audit schedules to support balances reflecting in financial statements, to ensure compliance with accounting standards and company policies. Ensure necessary actions are taken against aged / non-moving items per the schedule.

    • Work closely with local finance teams to gather necessary data and explanations and ensure consistent accounting and reporting, providing support during adjustments, and reconciliations.




    Fixed Asset and Inter Company accounting


    • Ensure the creation and assignment of AUC in accordance with the CAPEX requests that have been approved

    • Review the Capital Work in Progress (CWIP) balances regularly and ensure timely and accurate capitalization of projects that have reached their completion or are due for capitalization

    • Ensuring timely depreciation runs to maintain accurate financial records

    • Prepare reconciliations consistent with the Trial balance

    • Review and process intercompany invoices, receipts & payments while maintaining proper documentation.

    • Perform regular reconciliations of intercompany accounts and identify & resolve discrepancies promptly.

    • Investigate and resolve intercompany-related issues, addressing inquiries from stakeholders across markets




    Compliance and Reporting


    • Ensure compliance with corporate accounting policies & procedures

    • Ensure adequate controls and approvals are always in place




    Process Improvement and audit support


    • Identify opportunities for RTR process optimization, automation, and standardization within the financial accounting and close processes.

    • Collaborate with cross-functional and operation excellence teams to implement improvements and enhance overall efficiency

    • Assist with internal and external audit requests, providing necessary documentation & information to ensure a smooth audit process within the timelines.

    • Support in timely audit closure by assisting in query resolution.


    2pm to 11pm on regular days

    Night shift during month end close days (5:30 pm to 2:30 am)


    What You Need to Succeed

    Technical Skills:

    • • Proficiency in using SAP. Familiarity with other SAP modules is a plus
    • Excellent command of Microsoft Excel, including pivot tables, complex formulas, and data manipulation techniques to facilitate financial analysis and reporting.
    • Familiarity with financial consolidation tools and software to manage intercompany transactions, eliminations, and reporting across entities.
    • Strong understanding of financial reporting frameworks
