AS400 Modernization Expert

We are seeking an experienced AS400 modernization expert to lead our efforts in transforming legacy IBM AS400 green-screen applications into modern, responsive web applications.

  • The ideal candidate will have a deep understanding of the IBM i-series environment, COBOL/RPG/CL programs, and green-screen application modernization.
  • They will also possess strong knowledge of IBM DB2 and proficiency in SQL, including complex queries, stored procedures, and data modeling.
  • In addition, they will have expertise in developing modern front-end applications using JavaScript frameworks such as Vue.js, Angular, or React.
  • Solid experience with middleware and backend development using Node.js /Golang, and integration via RESTful services is also required.
  • The successful candidate will be proficient in HTML, CSS, JavaScript, and responsive web design principles.
  • Demonstrated ability to build scalable architecture patterns for integrating legacy systems with modern applications is essential.
  • Familiarity with Agile methodologies is also preferred.

    About the Role:

    The Change Management Specialist will play a critical role in coordinating and executing infrastructure and application changes for global SaaS clients of the HCL Software Group. The role requires close collaboration with product teams, cloud operations, and service managers to ensure all planned changes are delivered efficiently, safely, and with minimal disruption to client services.

    The candidate must be proactive, detail-oriented , and capable of handling high-pressure situations with professionalism. Shift flexibility , including weekends, is essential to support global operations.

    Key Responsibilities:

    • Own the end-to-end change management lifecycle : from request validation, planning, coordination, execution tracking, to closure.
    • Review change requests (CRs) for completeness, risk assessment , technical feasibility, and alignment with SLA and compliance requirements.
    • Coordinate with cloud, infrastructure, product, and application teams to plan changes , validate prerequisites, and ensure CAB approvals are obtained.
    • Schedule and manage change windows , ensuring resource availability and alignment with business impact windows.
    • Track and document post-change validations, back-out plans, and post-implementation review (PIR) actions.
    • Drive stakeholder communication , including internal and external teams, before, during, and after change execution.
    • Maintain accurate and updated change records in ServiceNow or other ITSM tools.

    Required Skills & Qualifications:

    • Bachelor’s degree in computer science, Information Technology, or related field.
    • 6–10 years of overall IT experience , with at least 4–6 years in Change Management or Service Management roles in enterprise environments.
    • Strong working knowledge of ITSM processes , particularly Change Management under ITIL framework .
    • Experience with ServiceNow or similar ITSM platforms.
    • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to coordinate among technical and business stakeholders.
