The Cloud Infrastructure Engineering Team:

Primary Responsibilities:

Kubernetes Deployment & Automation

  • Design, deploy, and manage highly available and scalable Kubernetes clusters on AWS EKS using Terraform and/or Cross plane.
  • Implement Infrastructure-as-Code (IaC) best practices for managing EKS clusters and related infrastructure.
     

Kubernetes Operations & GitOps

  • Configure and maintain Kubernetes deployments, services, ingresses, and other resources using YAML manifests or GitOps workflows.
  • Implement GitOps practices with FluxCD for automated deployments and configuration management of containerized applications.
     

Reliability, Security & Scalability

  • Proactively ensure the reliability, security, and scalability of AWS production systems, with a particular focus on Kubernetes clusters and containerized applications.
  • Resolve complex problems across multiple platforms and application domains, using advanced system troubleshooting techniques.
     

Operational Support & Monitoring

  • Provide primary operational support and engineering expertise for all cloud and enterprise deployments, with a focus on Kubernetes.
  • Monitor system performance, identify downtime incidents, and diagnose underlying causes, particularly related to Kubernetes cluster and container health.
     

Cost Optimization

  • Design and develop cost-effective Kubernetes solutions within allocated budgets, ensuring efficient resource utilization.
     

Secondary Responsibilities:

Collaboration & Process Improvement

  • Work closely with developers, testers, and system administrators to ensure smooth deployments and operations of containerized applications.
  • Champion the implementation of new processes, tools, and methodologies to enhance efficiency throughout the software development lifecycle (SDLC) and pipeline management.
     

Security Integration

  • Integrate robust security measures into the development lifecycle, considering the specific security requirements of containerized applications.
     

Typical Qualifications:

  • 5 to 9 years of experience building, scaling, and supporting highly available systems and services.
  • Min 3+ years of experience managing and operating Kubernetes clusters in production.
  • Proven experience in building and managing AWS platforms, with a strong focus on Amazon EKS (Elastic Kubernetes Service).
  • Deep knowledge of Kubernetes architecture, core concepts, best practices, and security considerations.

The Team

Stability Metrics and Toolkit Engineering is an infrastructure operations and development team that helps to fill many of the grey areas between our stakeholders. Our team is responsible for developing tools to facilitate visibility into our availability and related metrics.

We strive to deliver impactful, accurate, and valuable tools, monitoring, internal analytics services, and products, and serve as a front-line initial touchpoint for live Production incident triage, analysis, and remediation.

The ideal candidate will utilize their engineering expertise to help build solutions to novel problems in software development, both front-end and back-end; data engineering; and anomaly detection.

Job Responsibilities

  • Research, design, and implement operational monitoring instruments and enhancements including early failure detection using machine learning metrics
  • Perform routine operations to migrate data in order to distribute usage of our resources more evenly across clients and infrastructure
  • Develop tools and web applications to support business new and existing business functions
  • Analyze application logs and metrics to determine service availability and uptime while developing automation
  • Interface with stakeholders to keep them informed of availability trends associated with business critical functions
  • Maintain existing synthetic monitoring to ensure parity as new features are developed

Typical Qualifications:

  • Strong critical thinking and analytical skills
  • Minimum of 3-5Yrs experience
  • In-depth experience in at least one programming language commonly used for analysis, data engineering, or infrastructure automation tasks (Python, JavaScript, Perl, R, Java/Scala, C/C++, etc.)
  • Willingness to build with new/unfamiliar languages with guidance, as appropriate for each individual project/implementation
  • Ability to be flexible and to work independently as business and environment demands evolve
  • Experience with application performance measurement and troubleshooting across the application stack and its environments (Windows, Linux, Oracle, AWS, etc.)
  • Working familiarity with a variety of backends, including other REST endpoints, databases, etc.

In this role, youll make an impact in the following ways: 

Oversee the cloud resiliency backlog, taking ownership of the team’s Jira board and ensuring work is prioritised and delivered effectively.

Hands-on experience with Infrastructure as Code (Terraform preferred).

Stong understanding and experience of Kubernetes (AKS preferred).
