We are currently seeking a dedicated and experienced Physiotherapist to join our team, specifically to work with students who have learning difficulties. The ideal candidate will possess a strong background in physiotherapy, coupled with proven experience in teaching or working with individuals with diverse learning needs. We are looking for someone who demonstrates exceptional patience, empathy, and strong interpersonal skills, as this role involves close collaboration with students, their families, and multidisciplinary teams. Furthermore, the ability to adapt therapy interventions to meet the varied and unique needs of each student is essential.
Key responsibilities: -
- Conduct comprehensive physiotherapy assessments for children with a variety of needs (e.g. cerebral palsy, muscular dystrophy, Down syndrome, ASD with motor delay).
- Develop, implement, and review individualized treatment plans (ITPs) and therapy goals in collaboration with teachers, parents, and other health professionals.
- Deliver 1:1 and group physiotherapy sessions tailored to each child's developmental level and physical needs.
- Provide support for physical access and mobility within the school environment, including recommending adaptations and assistive equipment.
- Monitor progress and outcomes using evidence-based tools and update care plans accordingly.
- Support pupils with postural management programs, mobility aids, orthotics, and safe handling strategies.
- Work closely with teaching staff, occupational therapists, speech & language therapists, and school nurses.
- Contribute to multi-disciplinary team meetings, reviews, and transition planning.
- Maintain accurate clinical records, risk assessments, and reports in line with professional standards.
- Provide training to school staff and families on physiotherapy programs, manual handling, and positioning techniques.
Skills and qualifications:
- 3 to 7 years working with children and adults with multiple disabilities
- Degree in Physiotherapy (BSc or MSc) and HCPC registration (Health and Care Professions Council)
- Previous experience working with children and/or young people with special needs is highly desirable.
- Manual Handling and Safeguarding Children
- Knowledge of conditions affecting motor development and experience with specialist equipment (e.g. standing frames, gait trainers).
- Previous experience working with children and/or young people with special needs is highly desirable.
