The senior floating systems engineer will provide field expertise for operation support, including maintenance, inspection, anomaly management, and brownfield projects. In addition, the engineer will proactively interact with other fields and contractors to systematically resolve problems and apply sound engineering judgment to drive integrated, pragmatic solutions on risk management, operation efficiency, defect elimination, and standardization.
The senior floating systems engineer would be based in Pune, India. The successful candidate will support our operational assets in Mauritania & Senegal.
We are looking for a candidate with a solid technical background and proven integrity management experience to make fit-for-purpose recommendations for operational support. In addition, the successful candidate needs strong stakeholder leadership skills and can effectively communicate the technical outcomes to ensure engineering risks are understood, controlled, and continuously reduced across the business to deliver safe and reliable operating results.
What you will deliver
Discipline related
- Being an integrated member (remotely) in the regional Integrity Management (IM) squad team to manage the regional floating assets in a suitable condition to deliver the company’s safety and business goals.
- Supporting the regional deployed C&S engineers to deliver the regional floating systems and structural integrity management plans based on company guidance and industry codes; responsible for the asset floating systems and structural inspection, monitoring, and maintenance strategies in resolving facility’s current condition; handling significant deterioration in topside structural, hull, and mooring conditions or any deviation following the floating systems performance standards through the anomaly management process, quantifying the risks, and making sound engineering recommendations for mitigation actions.
- Being the leading field engineer in defining the floating systems and structural engineering scope of work for brownfield projects and providing technical assurance for third-party engineering deliveries, maintaining relationships with third-party providers and contractors, ensuring design and operations follow industry codes and technical practices and performance standards, assessing the impact of significant changes in load (weight) or changes (metocean or others) to operating conditions on the integrity of the assets.
- Supporting the regional severe weather evacuation preparation and post-hurricane or winter storm inspection; supervising the platform performance from the Integrity Marine Monitoring Systems (IMMS) data to ensure the floaters operate within the safe operation limits.
- Approving the weight changes on the platform following the company policy for not compromising the floater stability.
- Driving efforts to ensure floating systems (condition, operation, or metocean) risks are understood, controlled, and continuously reduced across the business to deliver safe and reliable operating results, effectively communicating risks to business and technical collaborators
- Documenting operational experience and coordinating with central engineers to standardise regional practices.
- Representing the company for external engagements, including participating in or leading Joint Industry Projects (JIPs) and others.
- Actively contributing to the floating system’s Community of Practice (CoP) and sharing best practices and findings
People and business related
- Provide visible safety leadership in accordance with bp safety leadership principles, lifesaving rules and process safety fundamentals to model desired safety behaviors

Must have educational qualifications:
- BSc or BEng (UK), BSc (US), or international equivalent in civil/structural engineering, naval architecture, ocean engineering, or a closely aligned field.
Must have certifications:
- Chartered engineer, professional engineer, or near chartered/professional status in a closely aligned field, or evidence of progression towards full chartered/professional status.
Preferred education/certifications:

The Civil & Structural (C&S) Delivery Services Lead (DSL)(the role) manages a centralized team of offshore structural and floating systems engineers. This team provides technical support to bp’s regional offshore assets. The role line-reports to the Chief Engineer Civil and Structural (C&S) and functionally collaborates with the IM Delivery Services Manager, based in Pune or equivalent experience. The role will be an active member of the Chief’s leadership team.
The role handles and provides technical guidance of team members, allocates accurate resources to support the regional C&S Integrity Management (IM) program, promotes a consistent way of working and standardization of C&S IM procedures across the regions, and supervises the technical delivery of the team in conformance with bp engineering practice, industry codes, and regulatory requirements. The incumbent will support establishing the Pune C&S IM team and recruiting the right talent for bp.
We seek a candidate with solid offshore structural or floating systems discipline knowledge and deep integrity management experience to make fit-for-purpose recommendations to operation and rigor leaders. What you will deliver
- Collaboration - one of two C&S DSLs, you will handle a C&S IM team in bp’s India Pune office, working with the Chief Engineer, Global C&S Field Leads and IM Delivery Services Manager to provide IM resources and resolve technical issues.
- Management - You will handle and empower the C&S IM team; agree individuals’ annual performance goals and Continuing Professional Development (CPD); and perform quality assurance of team members’ technical delivery in conformance with bp’s engineering practices and performance standards, industry codes and regulatory requirements.
- Engineering - provide C&S technical support to the regional IM squad team (≈50%).

About the Role
Global Subsurface Solutions (GSS) delivers high-quality, high impact, subsurface technical products to address prioritized business challenges across bp’s oil, gas, and low carbon businesses.
As a Reservoir engineer you will be responsible for utilizing broad reservoir engineering experience to inform reserves estimation, resources progression and the appropriate reservoir management activities and/or Carbon storage plans are implemented.
You will have the opportunity to work across BP global portfolio on projects as diverse as early field development offshore West Africa, large-scale waterflood developments in the Caspian Sea and Middle East and global screening and development of Carbon Capture and Storage (CCS) fields. You will be responsible for supporting region decisions on reserves estimation, reservoir management, and production forecasting.
Responsibilities
Work closely with the regions across the globe, utilising broad classical reservoir engineering methods to properly analyse and integrate wells and reservoir data into the team’s current understanding.
Conduct classical reservoir engineering analyses, integrating rate and pressure transient analysis, material balance, decline curve and volumetric analyses into reservoir evaluation and reserves estimation
Provide sound Reservoir Engineering technical analysis, judgement, and guidance to support identification, evaluation, and progression of value-generating resources
Provide technical support and guidance in delivery of projects and progression of resources
Apply reservoir engineering concepts to understand and optimize the production and recovery, Including Rock and fluid properties, relative permeability, and depletion mechanisms
Promote hydrocarbon resources progression by assessing surveillance and analogue data, development activities and materiality, and working across multi-disciplines to provide input and justification for reserves/resources estimation and reporting, following company’s guidelines
Must have educational qualifications:
Bsc / Msc degree in Petroleum/ Reservoir Engineering or related applied science engineering

Have a strong understanding of reservoir analysis fundamentals such as pressure transient analysis, decline curve analysis and material balance.
Good industry track record as Reservoir Engineer. Relevant classical reservoir engineering experience in Reservoir Management, Reservoir Performance, and Analytical Reservoir Engineering workflows.
Experience with classical RE toolkits (e.g. PETEX IPM, Kappa (Saphir))

- You will be an integrated member of the central Civil & Structural (C&S) team, Pune branch, fully deployed to bp’s Gulf of America floating system integrity squad. You will act as asset responsible floating system integrity engineer to ensure the integrity delivery and the maintenance of operating assets in a suitable condition to deliver the company’s safety and business goals. You are also an integrated member of the Gulf of America integrity management team.
- As a floating systems engineer, you will:
- Deliver the regional floating systems and structural integrity management plans for supported assets based on company guidance and industry codes.
- Own the asset floating systems and structural inspection scoping, monitoring, and maintenance strategies to determine the facility's current condition.
- Own the floating systems and structural performance standards of the supported facilities. You will assess whether the facility meets the performance standards in its current condition, following company guidance and industry codes.
- Report significant deterioration in structural conditions or any deviation from the performance standards through the company Anomaly Assessment and Tracking tool. You will process and communicate the risks to the appropriate level following the operation dashboard, emerging risk process, and risk assurance tool as appropriate.
- Support the regional severe weather evacuation preparation and post-hurricane or winter storm inspection. You will supervise platform performance using the marine monitoring systems and data to ensure the floaters operate within the safe operation limits.
- Define the floating systems and structural engineering scope of work for new construction, modifications to existing assets, and life extension work, focus primarily on topside structural work.
- Provide technical assurance for third-party engineering deliveries, ensuring design and operations follow industry codes, company technical practices, and performance standards.
- Maintain relationships with third-party providers and contractors.
- Assess the impact of significant weight and metocean changes to operating assets.

The offshore structural engineer will provide subject area expertise for project and operation support, including greenfield and brownfield projects, operational modifications, life extension, and decommissioning support. The engineer will proactively collaborate with other subject areas and contractors to systematically resolve technical challenges, apply sound engineering judgment to drive integrated, pragmatic solutions for risk management, project delivery, operational efficiency, defect elimination, and standardization.
The offshore structural engineer would be based in Pune, India.
We are looking for a candidate with broad experience in both topside (floating or fixed) and jacket design, construction, and installation, as well as a proven technical background who can make fit-for-purpose recommendations for projects and operations. In addition, the candidate needs strong team member leadership skills and the ability to optimally communicate technical outcomes to ensure engineering risks are understood, controlled, and continuously reduced across the business to deliver safe and reliable results.
What you will deliver
Responsibilities
- You will be a coordinated member of the central Civil & Structural (C&S) team, Pune branch, providing technical service work for operations and projects to ensure the safe delivery of projects and the maintenance of operating assets in a suitable condition to deliver the company’s safety and business goals.
- As an offshore structural engineer, you will:
- define the structural engineering scope of work for new construction, modifications to existing assets, life extension, and decommissioning, focusing on topside structure or jacket;
- Provide technical assurance for third-party engineering deliveries, ensuring design and operations follow industry codes, company technical practices, and performance standards;
- Perform independent verification for challenging analyses conducted by third party engineers;
- Manage relationships with third-party providers and contractors;
- assess the impact of significant weight and metocean changes to operating assets, and
- deliver fit-for-purpose solutions that consider operational constraints and asset as-is conditions.
- You will actively supply to the offshore systems Community of Practice by sharing the standard processes and learning. Additionally, you will:
- support the Subject Matter Experts (SMEs) with the development and upkeep of company engineering technical practices, ensuring they are fit for purpose, and
- work with SMEs to address lessons learned.
- You will drive efforts to ensure offshore structural risks, including pre-service and in-place conditions, operation, or metocean factors, are understood, controlled, and continuously reduced across the business to deliver safe and reliable results, and effectively communicate these risks to business and technical team members.
People and business related:
- Provide visible safety leadership in accordance with bp safety leadership principles, lifesaving rules, and process safety fundamentals to model desired safety behaviours
- Record relevant lessons learned in the bp shared learning system, bring up as vital and incorporate into local activities and specifications/ practices/ procedures.
- Support performance management through implementation, measurement, and analysis of relevant KPI’s to drive continuous improvement
What you will need to be successful
Must have educational qualifications:
- BSc or BEng (UK), BSc (US), or international equivalent in civil/structural engineering, or a closely aligned subject area.
Must have certifications:
- Chartered engineer, professional engineer, or near chartered/professional status in a closely aligned subject area, or evidence of progression towards full chartered/professional status.
Preferred education/certifications:
- Postgraduate qualification in civil/structural engineering or a closely aligned subject area.
Minimum years of relevant experience:

Must have experiences/skills (To be hired with)
- Knowledge of discipline-related industry standards (API RP 2TOP, 2A-WSD, 2EQ, AISC WSD/LRFD, or ISO 19900/19901/19902 series) and class codes, such as DNV.
- Proven experience in the design of jackets and fixed platform topsides from in-place condition to construction, transportation, and installation.
- Skilled in nonlinear finite element analyses, hot spot stress calculations, spectral fatigue analyses, utmost and abnormal level earthquake level analyses for topside structures and jackets.
- Understanding of the structural theory behind code requirements and being capable of interpolating the code conformance in the context of risk.
- Proven track record as a technical lead in approving design drawings during detailed engineering.
- People leadership, teamwork, communication skills, and an ability to network and influence across organizational boundaries.
- Capable of communicating both verbally and in writing clearly and succinctly.
- Proficient in English, both written and oral.
- Individual must be highly motivated and a self-starter.
Good to have experiences/skills (Can be trained for – learning/on-the-job):
- Experienced in topside analyses for floating structures.
- Skilled in fracture mechanics analysis for wave introduced cracks.
- Experience in management of change, risk assessment, performance management, maintenance, and repair strategies.
