    The position holder leads several global development projects in the product development team. He represents them independently towards internal and external customers. The latter takes place in coordination with Sales in the relevant region. Responsible for the timely achievement of project turning points. Development of innovative products in the associated area of thermal management fluid development. He is the technical contact for component suppliers in order to identify suitable additives and/or base oils or arrange their targeted synthesis. The evaluation of new raw material components with the aim of differentiation as well as the analysis and evaluation of relevant competitive products are among his main tasks. Maintaining workplace safety standards in compliance with HSSE regulations and local legal requirements is a priority in all tasks.

    Roles & Responsibilities:

    Strategy

    Develops a product development strategy for the projects assigned to him

    Develops an implementation strategy for strategic OEM customers

    Establishing and maintaining a contact map with the customers of his projects through regular visits and calls

    Representation of BP/Castrol with technical opinions and statements at external events (e.g. in specialist lectures) as well as participation in external working groups

    Query the global listing status for new raw materials as part of the chemical inventory compliance process.

    He represents the Lubricants SPU within the group and at industry meetings

    Planning

    Identifying customer needs and industry trends to support future planning

    Maintaining development relationships with additive suppliers on a technical level

    Optimization of the use of raw materials in the thermal management fluids space

    Creation, processing and updating of documentation within the framework of the quality system

    Planning blends and blends series to achieve the project goals

    Complying with relevant HSSE and minimizing any occupational risks

    The job holder reports all actual and potential rule violations in his area of responsibility regarding product quality, product safety or compliance (conformity to rules)

    Arranging the testing of product safety, compliance, integrity, quality with regard to customer requirements throughout product and service development, including toxicological and regulatory reviews in the early stages

    The holder of the position independently and continuously informs himself about standards, practices and requirements relating to product integrity, compliance, product and quality safety.

    Implementation

    Overview:

    The Senior Manager – Engineering and Projects is a part of Site Leadership
    The incumbent provides support to Plant Manager by leading all engineering, maintenance and project activities in the plant.

    The role holder has to lead a team of engineers of various disciplines in planning, organizing and controlling the projects and engineering related activities within the plant. The role holder is responsible for managing maintenance of mechanical, electrical and instrumentation equipment’s, in house projects & manufacturing agenda for the site.

    About the role!

    • To plan, schedule, implement, supervise and review maintenance of manufacturing assets to ensure reliability and availability of production assets at levels over 95%.
    • To innovate and drive energy initiatives at plant for energy savings and to reduce cost.
    • Handling and maintaining critical equipment “fit for purpose” by complying to integrity management for plant assets,
    • Implementation of engineering procedures to ensure full compliance to the BP Group Engineering standards and procedures.
    • Lead and drive Lean Manufacturing projects of the plant, one of the critical initiatives of BP/Castrol.
    • Formulate and acquire approval for the maintenance budget for conducting Maintenance activities,
    • Review, supervise and control the annual budget expenditures to agreed budget.
    • Forecast requirements and arrange for replenishment of spares to ensure adequate spares' availability, whilst keeping the inventory to an optimum level
    • Train and refresh the engineering skills of engineering technicians to equip them for autonomous maintenance,
    • To ensure compliance to statutory obligations in the impact area,
    • Assess need for up gradation and implement new projects/minor projects to meet business

    Roles & responsibilities:

    • Act as BP Contract Accountable to ensure safe execution of the contracted work while applying the Working with Contractor process throughout for the contract period.
    • Act as Risk Owner for risk events as assigned in the facility risk register with accountabilities including accurate documentation and assessment of the risk event, consulting with domain experts as appropriate, assign action owners to risk reduction measures, monitoring and self-verification closure with efficiency and communication of the importance to the workforce that may be affected.
    • Ensure that all procedures falling under the ownership of this role are maintained and reviewed on the agreed frequency, kept up-to-date, and changes detailed and reflected in OMS ONLINE as appropriate. Communicate any changes to the procedures that may impact understanding to the affected workforce.
    • Act as project manager for develop & construction projects, and in ongoing facility operation, acting project manager to ensure operation of assets within safe operating and safe develop limits, and ensuring inspection and maintenance of facility assets to meet all applicable BP Group Defined

    Experience & Qualifications:

    • Should be an Engineer with at least 10-12 years of experience in Manufacturing/FMCG Organization.
    • At least 10-12 years’ experience in engineering and maintenance activities in plants preferable supply chain areas.
    • Good knowledge of project management, planning, co-ordination, negotiations with sound commercial judgment and should be able to work well under pressure and with competing priorities.
    • Basic knowledge on statutory requirements like factories act, petroleum rules, electricity acts and rules.
    • Basic knowledge in electrical and instrumentation functions
    • This position requires good people management skills and should be able to lead a team – along with a battery of contractors.
    • Experience in communicating and interfacing with all levels of the organization and external agencies/ contacts including statutory bodies

    • This role for India and Asia Pacific leads technologists to deliver outstanding product and claims development to support the Castrol India and ASPAC business strategies. 
    • The role will be accountable for working with business customers to deliver the product and claims development for engine oil products across cars, motorcycles (MCO)  and commercial vehicles (CVO).  Projects will include new formulation developments, new performance demonstrations/claims developments, changes in raw material as well as product portfolio cost reduction and rationalisation. 
    • The role is primarily focussed on the Motorocycles (MCO) market space, and thus they will collaborate performance units (PU’s) MCO marketing, to influence & shape future MCO product range specifications, claims and benefits. 
    • This role will build a new technology team based will work to develop technical capabilities for delivering technology pipeline for the regions
    • They will establish strong technical relationships to enable local engine oil formulations.

    Key Accountabilities:

    • Build and mentor technology team to deliver and claims delivery pipeline for Castrol business; build technology capability across the India technology centre.
    • Work collaboratively with PU’s and technology deployment, and global marketing to influence the portfolio of projects for the future (1-5 years) and craft the futuret range
    • Lead the delivery of prioritized technology projects within the context of a changing external environment.
    • Drive excellence in delivering product development projects combining data based decision making with creative solutions to technical problems. Being able to work in matrixed teams using AGILE methodologies and/or stage gate project management to deliver projects through cross functional teams across technology, local performance units, marketing, supply chain, and legal.
    • Lead development of data to substantiate all technically-led claims and innovative and compelling marketing performance claims. Enable local activations and campaigns with technical input and claim substantiation.
    • Ensure technically led claims meet applicable advertising standards and any local legislation.
    • Seek new avenues of innovation for differentiation and distinctiveness in the Castrol portfolio by building positive relationships with the global and local marketing teams and staying on top of key technical and customer insights.
    • Craft and integrate the digital ecosystem across, embedding global digital and data modelling standard process.
    • Balance the desire for differentiated engine oils products vs. cost of goods and formulation proliferation.
    • Be able to influence in a  a diverse cross functional stakeholder group in complex and ambiguous situations.
    • Underpin technology delivery for global motorcyles growth through product, claims and formulation requirements, with key focus markets being India, Malaysia and Vietnam. 
    • Build and leverage relationships in additive and base oil suppliers working closely with the procurement teams.
    • Represent BP’s engine oil product technology original equipment manufacturers (OEMs)
    • Handle safety and operational risks according to BP’s processes and performance metrics
    • Ensure due diligence conducted in terms of Freedom to Operate for new technologies.
    • Effectively lead, develop and mentor team members using all including compliance with BP’s code of conduct.
    • Leads a team of direct reports, ensuring the appropriate expectations, principles, structures, tools and responsibilities are in place plan and deliver excellence.In line with continuous conversations, have regular transparent and constructive dialogue with team members to support performance and career development.
    • Ensure all projects meet lubricants technology quality and compliance standards.
    • Ensure budget is handled as per BP tools and processes.  Role is responsible for resource planning including both people and outside test charge budget.
    • Role directly supports the engine oils business, and global Motorcyles business.

    Education:

    • PhD or equivalent in chemistry, engineering or related technical field. 
    • Mininum of 15 years experience in engine oils product development, working with industry.

    Experience and Job Requirements:

    • Deep technical expertise in engine oil development and testing with a track record of the successful delivery of new products 
    • Evidence of building and maintaining external technical relationships in the industry for future OEM/spec insights.
    • Fully conversant with Industry Guidelines and Codes of Practice, BP and ISO procedures.
    • Experience and demonstration of leading, motivating and developing high performing teams.
    • Strong project management experience in an international arena, with outstanding track record on delivery.
    • This is a highly matrixed role, so it is important that the individual is excellent at networking cross functionally and cross hierarchy.  They must be able to handle the tension and ambiguity between the different stakeholders, both centrally and at a PU level or equivalent experience.  
    • Demonstrate a collaborative approach to working
    • Demonstrate strong interpersonal and communication skills
    • Ability to lead meetings in English .

    About the Role

    This role offers an exciting opportunity within our Supply Chain Product Portfolio Delivery (PPD) team to lead Castrol’s Procurement Sustainability strategy in support of Path360, and more broadly bp’s ambition to net zero. The role holder will lead or be part of projects linked to our Sustainability agenda, including Castrol’s Re-refined Base Oil (RRBO), Additive, 3P and Packaging sustainability roadmaps. 

    What you will deliver

    Lead the coordination and progression of Castrol’s Pathway to Net Zero on behalf of PPD & Procurement, taking the lead in driving the “responsible sourcing” agenda as part of our Path360 strategy, including: 

    Sole accountability of owning procurement sustainability agenda, providing direct support and taking on the role as “go to” GSC representative 

    Develop and deploy procurement sustainability roadmap, facilitating progress & tracking KPIs 

    Aiming to embed sustainability terms and conditions within our standard contract template 

    Work closely with PUs and global functions to support execution of Castrol Sustainability Plan 

    Coordinate activities across all categories (RRBO and Circularity strategy, Packaging, Additives, Third Party) to track progress and recognise risks/propose mitigations  

    Active member of GSC “All in” sustainability strategy core team 

    Be up to date with external market research and the movements of our competitors, understanding current and future trends that impact our ability to deliver  

    Represent within relevant sustainability forums throughout Castrol and wider BP 

    Incorporate agile ways of working in project planning and implementation 

    Collaborate with partners at all levels of the organisation on data presentation and projects 

    Develop presentation decks, communications and engagement material needed

    Experience and Qualifications

    • Degree or equivalent experience

    • Relevant post graduate training eg: CIPS desirable, but not essential 

    • 7 years relevant industry experience with at least 5+ years in a procurement  team

    • Project Management awareness and basics 

    • Strong communication and presentation skills both verbal and written 

    • Comfortable in a cross-functional distributed team 

    • Self-starter and ability to work with ambiguity
